Rigo Marmi for Piazza Gae Aulenti
Piazza Gae Aulenti
- Milan
Material, urban design, and bespoke details
At the heart of Porta Nuova Garibaldi, Piazza Gae Aulenti has become one of Milan’s most iconic public spaces. A project with international scope that interprets contemporaneity with balance, elegance, and functionality.
Rigo Marmi made a decisive contribution to the creation of the piazza, handling the supply and installation of the natural stone claddings, developed across multiple levels with an artisanal, design-led approach.
A layered project
- Exterior area: stairs in Pietra di Luserna, fountains in black slate, paving in Pietra di Luserna with Porfiroide inserts — materials chosen for their strength and materiality, perfectly suited to the urban landscape.
- Unicredit Building: entrances and lobbies clad in Calacatta Sponda, a marble that brings luminosity and prestige to the spaces.
- Level -1: claddings in flamed Bianco Fiore granite, ideal for delivering durability and elegance even in high-traffic areas.
Craftsmanship in service of public space
Every detail was designed to integrate with the context and offer a refined, functional urban experience. Rigo Marmi produced to custom design:
- Drainage grates and bike racks sculpted from solid stone
- Bespoke stone staircases for access to the piazza
- Paving at the elevator landings in honed Virginia Black granite, in buildings A, B, and C
- Material connections between public spaces, in a visual and structural continuum.
A project that celebrates marble and stone as living elements of the urban landscape, capable of combining aesthetics and durability at one of contemporary Milan’s most symbolic hubs.
