Rigo Marmi for the Cimitero Maggiore project

A marble pyramid, between material and meaning
In Milan’s Cimitero Maggiore, one of the city’s symbolic sites, stone becomes the language of memory.
Rigo Marmi delivered a project of great design and spiritual intensity, contributing to the creation of an architectural presence capable of uniting discretion, strength, and sacredness.
A marble pyramid, between material and meaning
At the heart of the project is the monumental pyramid within the cemetery complex — a volume simple in geometry yet deeply evocative in its material composition.
The cladding, handled entirely by Rigo Marmi, employed two stones iconic for their symbolic charge and visual contrast:
- Bianco Carrara C: pure, luminous, chosen to evoke spirituality and a sense of continuity.
- Bardiglio: a deep, elegant gray, able to balance the composition with a note of restraint and formal poise.
The combination of the two materials creates a powerful, silent chromatic balance, suited to a place where architecture and spirituality must speak to one another with respect.
